Estimation of phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity in leaves of fruit species using near-infrared spectroscopy and a chemometric approach

Description of the subject. Phenolic compounds are very important to antioxidant capacity plant species. and hence commonly measured in laboratory using indirect methods that involve several stages chemicals. Objectives. This study aims identify species with high content phenolic measure these parameters leaves fruit near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). Method. A total 68 samples different varieties Prunus avium, cerasus, Malus domestica, Pyrus communis, Vitis vinifera, Ficus carica Corylus avellana were investigated. The dried ground scanned reflectance mode compound (total compounds, flavanols flavonols) (2-2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydazil [DPPH] oxygen radical absorbance [ORAC]) determined. Results. Great variability was observed between (inter-species) (intra-species). spectra without pre-treatments tested correlate capacities. showed a slight improvement statistical (R²CAL > 0.75; R²CV 0.21; RPD 1.1). Conclusions. results suggest NIR chemometric approaches could be used rapidly estimate evaluated this shown rich source antioxidants.
